Red Alert in Mumbai Metropolitan Region

Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and several nearby cities due to expected heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The alert covers Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and parts of the Konkan region, with warnings of waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

In the last 24 hours, several areas in Mumbai recorded over 200 mm of rainfall, including Juhu, Santacruz, and Vikhroli. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has activated emergency response teams to manage flooding in low-lying areas.

Affected Cities and Districts

Besides Mumbai, the red alert extends to:

  • Thane
  • Palghar
  • Raigad
  • Parts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg

Orange alerts are in place for other districts in Maharashtra, including Pune, Nashik, and Aurangabad. The IMD has warned of continued intense rainfall over the next few days.
