Tragic Death in Mumbai: Pedestrian Falls into Open Manhole

In a shocking incident in Andheri’s Sakinaka area, a 55-year-old man named Aslam Shaikh died after falling into an uncovered manhole on Khairani Road during heavy monsoon rains on Thursday morning.

What Happened?

Shaikh was returning home when he accidentally stepped into the open manhole near Samaan Hotel. The heavy downpour had filled the area with water, making the hazard invisible. He was swept into a deeper section approximately 20-25 feet down. Local residents and emergency services rushed to the spot, but rescue efforts could not save him.

Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life due to civic negligence.

Recurring Problem in Mumbai

This tragedy comes shortly after another fatal incident in Chembur where a tree fell on a school van, killing an 11-year-old boy. Open manholes, poor drainage, and fallen trees continue to pose serious risks to citizens during the monsoon season in Mumbai.

Authorities have initiated an investigation, and calls for stricter accountability regarding road safety and maintenance are growing louder.
