Main Accused in Baruipur Rape-Murder Case Dies in Police Encounter

Prabhas Mondal, the prime suspect in the shocking rape and murder of a woman in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, was killed in a police encounter on Wednesday during the reconstruction of the crime scene.

According to police officials, Mondal tried to snatch a weapon from an officer while being taken to the spot where the crime took place. In the ensuing scuffle, he was shot and later declared dead at the hospital.

What Happened in the Incident

The accused was being taken for a crime scene reconstruction when the incident occurred. Police claimed that Mondal suddenly attacked the escort team and attempted to grab a service revolver. In self-defence, the police fired at him.

This is the second major development in the case after the woman’s body was found in a water body in Baruipur area last week.

The victim, a 27-year-old woman, was allegedly raped and murdered. Her body was recovered from a pond in the Baruipur region. The brutality of the crime had sparked widespread outrage across West Bengal. Prabhas Mondal was arrested a few days ago and was the main accused in the case.
