Mumbai: To accommodate the massive rush of commuters traveling from urban centers like Mumbai, Thane, and Pune to the Konkan region and rural Maharashtra, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has officially announced the deployment of over 5,000 special state transport (ST) buses for the upcoming Ganpati Festival 2026. The festive bus service will operate across major routes to ensure seamless connectivity and comfortable travel for millions of devotees.

Extensive Bus Operations for Konkan Route Devotees

Every year, lakhs of families migrate from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune towards Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts to celebrate the auspicious festival with their families. MSRTC officials confirmed that additional bus fleets will be stationed at key departure hubs including Mumbai Central, Parel, Kurla, Thane, Borivali, and Swargate in Pune. Both non-AC express buses and premium Shivneri/Shivshahi AC buses will be part of this special operation.

Booking Rules and Reservation Guidelines

Transport officials have advised passengers to book their travel tickets early through authorized channels to avoid last-minute hassles. Key details regarding the reservation process include:

  • Online Ticket Booking: Advance seat reservations can be booked directly via the official MSRTC web portal or the official ST mobile application.
  • Group Reservations Available: Devotees traveling in large family groups or neighborhood associations (Mandals) can book full buses in advance from local depots.
  • Fare Concessions Intact: Standard government fare concessions—including 50% discount for women under the 'Mahila Samman Yojana' and 100% free travel for senior citizens above 75 years—will remain fully applicable on these special festival services.

To prevent breakdown delays along highway routes—especially through the Mumbai-Goa Highway and Western Ghats passes—MSRTC is setting up mobile repair squads and temporary technical service booths along major transit corridors.
