Newly Inaugurated Mumbai-Pune Missing Link Develops Potholes

Mumbai: The Mumbai-Pune Missing Link, inaugurated on Maharashtra Day, has developed potholes on one of its carriageways just weeks after opening to traffic. The issue was reported after heavy monsoon rains.

According to officials from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), two potholes appeared near the expansion joint of the cable-stayed bridge on Thursday.

Official Response

An MSRDC official confirmed that the contractor was immediately instructed to carry out repair work, which was completed on priority. The potholes were located on one carriageway of the 13.3-km high-speed corridor.

Project Background

The Missing Link bypasses a section of the Bhor Ghat stretch on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar. The project is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Pune by 25 to 30 minutes.

A motorist shared a video on Instagram showing the potholes, which sparked concern among commuters regarding the quality and durability of the infrastructure during the monsoon season.

The incident highlights challenges faced by new road infrastructure during heavy rainfall in Mumbai. Officials have stated that the repairs were carried out promptly.
